CONNECT WITH SCOTT
Scott Borba is a seasoned leader, educator, and advocate for personal growth and self-awareness in the world of public education. Recognized as a 2017 National Distinguished Principal with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and 2021 Superintendent/Principal of the Year with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), Scott has earned a reputation for excellence and dedication in his field. With over two decades of experience in leadership roles, including twelve years as a professor of school law at CSU Stanislaus, Scott has dedicated his career to creating environments where both students and educators feel empowered to grow, innovate, and succeed.
As Superintendent and Principal of Le Grand Union Elementary School District, Scott combines his passion for education with a commitment to fostering leadership that is honest, adaptable, and growth-oriented. Driven by the belief that true leadership requires both confidence and humility, Scott has developed a unique approach that emphasizes the importance of knowing one’s strengths as well as embracing one’s limitations. His work is rooted in the idea that leaders who are self-aware and open about their own growth inspire others to do the same, ultimately building a culture of continuous improvement. Scott is known for his engaging, down-to-earth style, connecting with readers and colleagues through stories that are as insightful as they are relatable.
Outside of his work in education, Scott is a dedicated family man, avid reader, and lifelong learner who values time with his family and community. His dedication to guiding the next generation of leaders extends beyond the workplace, as he actively mentors aspiring leaders and supports initiatives that cultivate emotional health, resilience, and empathy.
By focusing on the whole principal—including imperfections—Borba reminds us that we are enough as we are, but that we must continuously summon the courage to risk forward and create meaningful change for the communities and students we serve.

The Leader You're Not is an inspiring call to lead with honesty, humility, and heart. It challenges leaders to embrace their blind spots, let go of perfectionism, and grow through vulnerability and feedback.
